10 Steps To a Better Groom Speech
Whether in a small wedding or a big affair, public speaking may be a bit daunting for some people and make them nervous. If you cannot get out of the speech, there is really one more thing that you can do – master your courage and prepare yourself to deliver a great speech.
Here are ten steps that will help you produce and deliver your best Groom Speech.
1. Go down memory lane – To make your speech real, reminisce of the good times and the funny times. Think of the person and let the feelings flow. This will prepare the ambiance for putting those feelings into words.
2. Sit comfortably and without distractions to write everything that comes to mind after you have reminisced. Don’t attempt to write the perfect Groom Speech, just put in paper some of the thoughts that are coming to you; let them flow free from your mind to the paper. Once you are done writing, read what you wrote. Notice how it makes you feel.
3. The third step is to use that information to write your speech. Make it organized, clear, and concise. This is important, as you want it to be meaningful, but also light and not too long. The reality is that too long of a speech becomes a boring piece for the guests, no matter how much heart and effort you have put into it. Strike a balance, not too short, not too long. Once written, read it aloud to yourself and correct anything you want to express better. Trim it or add something as needed.
4. Make cards to use for practice. These will be the same cards you will use the day of the speech. You want to mimic that day and get into character.
5. Practice your Groom Wedding Speech. The best is to practice in front of a mirror. Don’t make a big production out of it, just practice. You can tape yourself, but it is really not necessary. Practice it a few times during the week, until you learn it. Don’t be surprised at your fluidity, and if you change a few things to make it more alive – it will happen. However, resist the temptation to make it longer.
6. Practice your posture or body language in front of a mirror. The body must convey the same message as your mouth. A casual stance with a friendly demeanor is best. Avoid being too rigid or too relaxed, as it may be interpreted as laziness or lack of care about the important event. A good idea is to watch some examples of great groom speeches to give you an idea of posture and body language. Watching others will serve as a guide as what to avoid since you become the audience.
7. The day before the wedding, practice once more. By this time since you have been practicing it may feel as second nature to you. Remember to put your speech cards next to your clothes or already inside the pockets. You want to have them available if you need them.
8. Use the time before the speech to mingle with the guests. This way, they will feel more familiar to you and you will have eased your nerves.
9. When it is time to deliver the Groom Speech, imagine your audience as a mirror in front of you – smile, make eye contact, and talk from the heart. Leave yourself some room for small last minute changes, if need to do so. It is common to get emotional.
Once finished, silently pat yourself in the back. You did a great job. For more awesome tips, check out the #1 Groom Speech Guide.
